Anantamul is a root extract of the Asian shrub, Hemidesmus indicus. Anantamul is a traditional Ayrvedic remedy which has been used as a blood purifier, diuretic and as an herb to treat infections, chronic rheumatism as well as diseases of skin and urinary tract. The active constituents of anantamul include coumarins, the chief component of which is p-methoxy salicylic aldehyde, two sterols and a pregnane glycoside. Experimental data indicate that anantamul possesses strong antimicrobial and antifungal activity as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.
